Conservation Corps (YCC) Crew Leader

End Date: July 27, 2023
Wages: $16-$17/hour
Schedule: 36 hours per week
(8 hours/day Monday – Thursday; plus half day Fridays)

Summary of YCC program
Funded by the New Mexico Youth Conservation Corps (YCC)
Commission, Talking Talons Youth Leadership is hiring a YCC crew for summer
2023.
The YCC program employs young New Mexicans to gain hands-on,
entry level experience in the environmental conservation field. Throughout the
summer season, the crew will work together to complete meaningful work that
benefits their community by improving public lands and recreation sites.
Talking Talons Youth Leadership is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization
with a 30-year history of delivering quality environmental education and youth
development programs in central New Mexico.
True to our mission of empowering the next generation of
leaders in the age of climate change, part of the YCC crew’s work time will be
spent engaging in diverse training opportunities to gain personal, professional
and leadership skills.
The YCC crew consists of 5 Crew
Members, 1 Crew Lead, and 1 Assistant Crew Lead. ALL WORK TAKES PLACE IN OR NEAR TIJERAS NM.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist Crew Leader to supervise a team to perform
service work with pride and determination on all projects.
·
Provide on-the-job training and coaching to
members to develop project-related skills.
·
Lead and/or participate in daily check-ins,
educational training sessions, and group discussions.
·
Maintain a safe work environment to ensure both
physical and mental well-being.
·
Hold crew accountable to work standards set
forth by project partners and TTYL staff.
·
Foster and maintain a positive and professional
attitude in among the crew
·
Demonstrate respect for the natural environment
and community resources.
·
Inform TTYL staff and partners of important crew
developments; attend meetings/debriefs.
·
Complete and approve timecards for
yourself.
·
Assist Crew Leader to prepare detailed, accurate
weekly reports
QUALIFICATIONS:
·
Must be 16-25 years old at time of hire; valid,
insurable driver’s license (without major citations).
·
US Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident.
·
Able to complete entire length of service
term (May 29 – August 10 2023).
·
Experience and/or interest working with youth
ages 16 – 25 in a leadership capacity.
·
Experience with building a positive group
dynamic.
·
Interest in the environmental or conservation
field
·
Preferred: Previous experience working on a youth
conservation crew will be prioritized.
