Janus Herrera
Program Director
Janus comes from a large New Mexican family and has a deep love for all things that grow here. She is both a Lobo and an Aggie, graduating with a Master’s Certificate in Public Health in 2025. She started volunteering in bosque restoration projects in the 90s and over the last decade has focused on improving the tree canopy statewide. She currently serves as Vice President on the board of Tree New Mexico and has been trained as a Tree Steward and tree planting team leader.
Her background includes AmeriCorps national volunteering, rooted in service as a 2015-16 Public Allies corpsmember that inspired subsequent work creating curriculum and leading Youth Conservation Corps programming across NM. Janus volunteers with community-based groups including Mutual Aid and the Whittier Food Hub to deliver nutrition, hydration, and first aid to neighbors who are unsheltered. In her spare time, she packs her hatchback with gear and her trusty dog Juice to find adventure, most usually hiking or camping somewhere in the Land of Enchantment.
