Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Crew Member

  • Position: Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Crew Member
  • Position Type: Part-Time, Temporary position
  • Location: Near Tijeras, New Mexico
  • Start Date: May 29, 2024
  • End Date: July 27,2024
  • Wages: $15-16/hour
  • Schedule: 32 hours per week (8 hours/day Monday – Thursday)
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years old at the time of hire. High school students welcome!

Summary of YCC program

Funded by the New Mexico Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Commission, Talking Talons Youth Leadership is hiring a YCC crew for summer 2024.

The YCC program employs young New Mexicans to gain hands-on, entry level experience in the environmental conservation field. Throughout the summer season, the crew will work together to complete meaningful work that benefits their community by improving public lands and recreation sites.

Talking Talons Youth Leadership is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a 30-year history of delivering quality environmental education and youth development programs in central New Mexico.

True to our mission of empowering the next generation of leaders in the age of climate change, part of the YCC crew’s work time will be spent engaging in diverse training opportunities to gain personal, professional and leadership skills.

The YCC crew consists of 6 Crew Members and 1 Crew Lead. Crew Members do not need to have previous work experience to apply.

ALL WORK TAKES PLACE IN OR NEAR TIJERAS AND CEADER CREST NM.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Perform service work with pride and determination on all projects as part of a team.
  • Actively participate in daily check-ins and educational training sessions.
  • Maintain a safe work environment to ensure both physical and mental well-being.
  • Comply with work standards set forth by project partners and Crew Leaders.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Be willing to reflect on your experience and share feedback in a group setting.
  • Respect the natural environment and community resources.
  • Complete and approve timecards for yourself.

Rather, we will prioritize applicants who are interested in growing leadership skills and who are excited about working in the Sandia Mountains to protect and improve our public lands.
